Cogenz Launches Enterprise Social Bookmarking API, Announces Developer Contest

LONDON, 7 September 2007 -- Enterprise social bookmarking provider Cogenz today announced the immediate availability of its open Application Programming Interface (API), enabling its customers to integrate Cogenz’s enterprise tagging functionality and data into their existing intranet and extranet platforms.

Launching the API at the Office 2.0 Conference in San Francisco, Cogenz CEO Niall Cook said, “Our customers want simple ways to make their tags and bookmarks available in other systems. Whether that means augmenting enterprise search engines like Google or Autonomy with user-generated metadata, or simply displaying popular bookmarks from across the organisation on intranet pages or in Microsoft SharePoint, our API gives them complete control of their data.”

The API also allows third party developers to integrate Cogenz’s enterprise bookmarking service into their products, creating new ways to collect, manipulate and visualise organisational collective intelligence. One of the first such products to use the API is Hyperwords, a browser extension for Firefox that makes web research richer. With their free software, Cogenz customers can now tag web pages and search bookmarks directly from their browser, as well as access all the other time-saving functions.
