Unity Worldwide Calling Is Latest AT&T Plan to Blur the Lines Between Wired and Wireless Phones

San Antonio, Texas.-AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) today announced a new international calling plan that combines the benefits of low wireline calling rates with the mobility of a wireless phone. AT&T Unity Worldwide CallingSM allows subscribers to get AT&T’s best overall international long distance calling rates when using their home or wireless phones to call more than 220 countries, including Mexico, Canada, Japan, Australia and France, for only $4.99 a month.

Available today to people who have, or sign up for, AT&T’s wired and wireless service, AT&T Unity Worldwide Calling is sold through AT&T stores and AT&T call centers. The plan builds upon the company’s portfolio of services designed to combine the benefits of wired and wireless service to deliver an even more seamless and convenient communications experience.

“With Unity Worldwide Calling, international callers no longer have to worry about whether they’re calling from home or on the road or whether they’re getting competitive calling rates,” said Ralph de la Vega, AT&T group president. “We’ve created a plan that makes it easy and affordable to keep connected with friends and family around the world — with one rate on both phones.”

AT&T Unity Worldwide Calling is the latest service from AT&T that combines the benefits of wireless and wired service. Earlier this year, the company launched AT&T Unity, which created the largest calling community, with more than 120 million AT&T wireless and wired phone numbers across the country. AT&T Unity subscribers can make or receive calls within the nationwide AT&T calling community without using their Anytime Minutes. The AT&T Unity calling plans include Rollover® Minutes.

“Today’s busy, on-the-go telecommunications customers are looking for a simple, seamless, affordable communications experience -- whether it be from a landline phone or a wireless device,” said Patrick Monaghan, Yankee Group senior analyst. “Service providers that are able to deliver on the promise of convergence and successfully introduce true, integrated portfolios of wired and wireless services will quickly grab consumer mindshare.”

AT&T Unity Worldwide Calling requires subscribers to have both an AT&T wireless and an AT&T local and long distance wireline calling plan; a combined bill of wireline and wireless services is also required. The monthly charge of $4.99 will appear on the wireless portion of the customer’s combined bill, and the usage will appear on both the home and wireless portions of the combined bill, depending on where the call originated.
