Holiday Sickness Victims May Have Claim
Travel law specialist Andrew Morton from Manchester based law firm Pannone LLP, says the 26 holidaymakers struck down by illness on a plane returning from the Venezuelan island of Margarita may have a claim for compensation. “If they can prove their sickness was caused by poor standards of hygiene at their accommodation, they could pursue a claim against the tour operator”, he commented.
“This kind of sickness outbreak is becoming increasingly prevalent”, he said, adding, “as more and more people travel to destinations outside of Europe, tour operators must take steps to ensure health and safety levels at hotels and in resorts in places like South America, Africa and the Caribbean are up to the required standard, otherwise travellers will seek redress for holidays ruined through no fault of their own.”
