10/11/2005
TiVo® DVR Chosen as Second Most Influential Tech Product in Last Decade; Editors Praise TiVo Interface And Cite Its Superiority to Competitors
The technology experts at the venerable online tech chronicler CNET have selected the TiVo® DVR as one of the 10 best technology innovations of the last decade, citing in particular the superior TiVo user interface that delivers an unprecedented user experience that makes the product so easy to use.
To celebrate 10 years of covering and reporting on every tech innovation imaginable, the tech team at CNET looked back at every product that has flowed through the doors of CNET . The resulting list, "Power of 10: The past, present and future of digital living" called out the top 10 products of that decade. The TiVo DVR ranked as the second most stunning innovation of the decade, just behind the iPod. Other products on this best of the last decade list included Google, Napster and the iMac.
"It [TiVo] has finally moved beyond ’pausing live TV’ to an entertainment-center essential that inspired a myriad of competitors, none of which even come close to having as good an interface" CNet editor Tom Merritt writes.
In addition to being recognized as the innovator and creator of the DVR category, TiVo has perhaps established a new benchmark in consumer electronics for customer satisfaction. Since launching in 1999, TiVo DVRs have become a household necessity for more than 3.6 million people, 93 percent of whom are satisfied with the TiVo service and 96 percent said they would recommend TiVo to a friend.
To capitalize on this enthusiastic support of users and subscribers, the company launched the TiVo Ambassador contest to mobilize this legion of fans to spread the word about the amazing power of the TiVo service to revolutionize the way Americans watch TV.
As the number one fan, the TiVo Ambassador will have the opportunity to participate in various promotional activities over a one year period. The winner will receive $25,000 and a TiVo-branded Mini Cooper, a prize package worth approximately $50,000.
Making it even easier for those vying for the TiVo Ambassador position to share the joy of the TiVo service with everyone they know, TiVo boxes are now just $49.99 after mail in rebate and service activation.
TiVo boxes are available at leading retailers nationwide including Best Buy and Circuit City . To find a retail location near you please visit www.tivo.com .
To be eligible for the TiVo Ambassador Contest, candidates must be participants in the TiVo Rewards program and have earned 25,000 points prior to the contest start date of November 27, 2005 . In addition, candidates must submit a creative video that shows they have what it takes to be the TiVo Ambassador, write a short essay extolling the personal attributes they possess that make them a good candidate, as well as provide a short testimonial from a friend recommending them for the position.
