Carl Zeiss SMT Ltd and Intellection Pty Ltd today announced a long-term strategic agreement reinforcing the successful co-operation between the two companies. The agreement defines the relationship for the development and supply of Carl Zeiss SMT Ltd’s Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) for use in the Intellection’s QEMSCAN® automated quantitative mineralogy system.

Stefan Traeger, Managing Director at Carl Zeiss SMT Ltd in Cambridge explained: “The QEMSCAN® application is an exciting part of our current SEM business – customers require complete turnkey solutions tailored to their requirements for routine analysis without the need for an expert operator. As part of this agreement Carl Zeiss SMT and Intellection will co-ordinate capacity and supply of QEMSCAN systems to optimize delivery of new systems to Intellection’s customers. We will also be working closely together to develop a roadmap for new SEM systems dedicated to the automated mineralogy markets.”

Intellection’s QEMSCAN uses advanced electron beam technology from Carl Zeiss SMT combined with high resolution BSE and SE imaging and up to four state-of-the-art, liquid- nitrogen-free Energy Dispersive Spectrometers (EDS). The system is integrated with the QEM*SEM® electronic control system and unique iDiscover™ software suite to provide a comprehensive solution capable of automatically identifying most ore- and rock-forming minerals on a micro-scale in just milliseconds.

Calvin Treacy, Chief Executive Officer at Intellection Pty Ltd stated: “The QEMSCAN® software analyses mineral data and provides valuable information for the customer. Our close co- operation with Carl Zeiss SMT enables us to provide the best automated mineral analysis system based on a leading electron microscope platform. This agreement cements the relationship between our two companies and is the key to the future growth of the QEMSCAN® business.”
