American Also To Add Second Round Trip Between JFK And London Stansted

NEW YORK – American Airlines continues to grow and enhance its New York service into Europe, announcing today that it will begin two new routes early next year to Milan, Italy, and Barcelona, Spain, from JFK International Airport (JFK), as well as a second daily roundtrip between JFK and London’s Stansted Airport.

Beginning May 1, 2008, American will begin flying to Milan and Barcelona, and on April 7, 2008, American will launch a second daily flight to Stansted Airport in London. American’s initial new service between JFK and Stansted is scheduled to begin Oct. 28. The return flights from these new European destinations will first launch on the next day following the dates listed above.

American will fly all three new routes with its two-class (Business and Economy/Coach) Boeing 767-300 aircraft with 221 seats, including 30 Next Generation Business Class seats.

“These new routes further demonstrate American’s commitment to New York as an important international gateway,” said Dan Garton, American’s Executive Vice President – Marketing. “That commitment equates to 244 daily departures from our New York airports to 59 nonstop destinations, 26 of which are international. Adding Barcelona, Milan and London Stansted will greatly benefit our New York customers as well as those who connect to these flights from elsewhere.”

Milan is an important business, manufacturing and retail center in northern Italy with close proximity to the Italian Alps. Barcelona is a large business center located on the Mediterranean Sea. With more than 6 million people who live in the area, Barcelona is responsible for more than 20 percent of Spain’s Gross Domestic Product. The nearby Mediterranean beaches also make it a popular leisure and cruise destination, as does its tradition of fine architecture and artwork. Stansted is a growing third London airport, popular with business travelers and convenient to some of London’s booming financial and business districts.

American also continues to serve both London Heathrow and London Gatwick from several U.S. gateways. American currently flies six daily round trips between JFK and Heathrow.

These new routes are part of American’s ongoing initiative to become the clear-cut airline of choice for passengers in the New York market. And there is much more to come. Already announced and starting Sept. 5, American will add service from New York LaGuardia to Minneapolis/St. Paul and from JFK to Las Vegas. That same day American Eagle begins service from LaGuardia to Louisville.

In November, American will begin flying nonstop to St. Lucia and St. Kitts/Nevis from JFK, while American Eagle will add service from LaGuardia to Flint, Mich. In December, a new flight from JFK to Orlando will be added, as will seasonal service between LaGuardia and West Palm Beach.
