Peter Lalonde, co-CEO of Cloud Ten Pictures, the Canada-based film studio that has produced the highly popular “Left Behind” movie series, has signed as a columnist with The Church Report, announced the journal’s publisher and editor-in-chief Jason Christy. Lalonde’s monthly column will focus on Hollywood and the Christian influence in the film industry.

“There is certainly no one in Christian media who has a better understanding than Peter Lalonde of the role Christians can and should be playing in the film industry,” said Christy. “The work he and his brother Paul have done in the last 10 years to get quality faith-based films into the mainstream can’t be understated.”

The Lalonde brothers founded Cloud Ten Pictures in 1996, and since then the company has become the undisputed leader in the production and marketing of faith-based films. Cloud Ten’s “Left Behind” films, based on the New York Times best-selling books by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins, have garnered worldwide acclaim and have become a model for cinema-based evangelism.

Left Behind: World at War, the third installment in the “Left Behind” series, is scheduled to open Oct. 21 in churches all over the nation. Lalonde said Cloud Ten opted to release the film in churches rather than theaters because of the enormous potential for evangelism. “In the ’70s and ’80s, before the days of VHS, 16-millimeter church film nights were one of the greatest ways that churches could introduce non-believers to their church,” Lalonde said. “We want to revive that outreach.”

That kind of vision, explained Christy, is the reason he approached Lalonde about writing regularly in The Church Report. “Pastors and church leaders need to understand the enormous power that Hollywood-quality films have to reach America – and the world -- with the gospel,” said Christy. “Peter has that vision -- he knows the ins and outs of Hollywood and the film industry, and he understands how the church can influence Hollywood and tap into its creativity. Peter is looking forward to sharing that insight with our readers.”

Lalonde’s column is scheduled to debut in the December issue of The Church Report.
