Ryszard Wojtkowski to Lead Buyout and Growth Capital Investment Team

Warsaw, Poland – Global private equity firm The Carlyle Group announced it has established a team to conduct private equity investments in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). The CEE team will be headed by Managing Director Ryszard Wojtkowski. Mr. Wojtkowski begins his duties immediately and is based in Warsaw.

Carlyle’s CEE team will make growth capital and buyout investments in healthy, growing companies in sectors that leverage Carlyle’s 20 years of experience, including consumer and retail, industrial, IT and media, pharmaceuticals/healthcare and financial services. With the addition of a CEE team, the geographic scope of Carlyle’s investment capabilities will extend to Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, the Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia). In addition to countries that have already joined the European Union, investments may also be considered in Croatia, Serbia and Ukraine.

Mr. Wojtkowski comes to Carlyle from Enterprise Investors (2000-2007), where he was Managing Partner. Prior to Enterprise Investors, from 1997 to 2000, Mr. Wojtkowski was president of Novartis Consumer Health International SA in Switzerland. From 1991 to 1994 he was the Deputy General Manager of Coca-Cola Poland Services, and later (1994-1997) president of Gerber Eastern Europe. Prior to that from 1983 to 1991, Mr. Wojtkowski served as Chief of Staff to consecutive Polish Prime Ministers for the Government of Poland. Mr. Wojtkowski started his career as a lecturer at the Academy of Economics in Katowice from 1978 to 1983.

Mr. Wojtkowski, 51, earned his M.A. in economics from the Katowice Academy of Economics and has studied at the Harvard Business School.
