FamilyFun Magazine unveils the 2005 Toy of the Year (T.O.Y.) Award Winners After More Than 1,400 Children Vote for the Toys That Will Top Their Wish Lists This Holiday Season

WEBWIRE

NEW YORK, Oct. 4 -- FamilyFun magazine announces the 21 winners of its 14th annual Toy of the Year (T.O.Y.) Awards, a nationally recognized toy test during which children play with and vote for their favorite toys. In past years, many FamilyFun T.O.Y. winners have gone on to become the hottest sellers of the holiday season. The ten highest ranked toys were also announced today during a fun-filled event at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan in New York City.

According to The Wall Street Journal, a FamilyFun T.O.Y. Award is “a laurel as coveted in the toy industry as the Oscar is in Hollywood.” After more than 30,000 hours of play testing, children at 17 KinderCare Learning Centers across the country voted to select the winners of the nation’s most rigorous toy competition. This year, 170 manufacturers submitted 520 toys for review. Of these toys, 63 were selected as finalists and 21 received the sought-after T.O.Y. Award. The finalists and winners are featured in the November issue of FamilyFun magazine. Submissions were considered in categories -- including Learning Toys, Playmates, R/C Toys, Arts and Crafts, Building Sets, Games, Role Play, Playsets, and Tech Toys -- in four age groups. The independent testing firm, Digital Research, Inc., oversees the toy testing program for FamilyFun.

Several past T.O.Y. winners, such as Bratz dolls and a Rescue Heroes playset, have become must-have toys. This year’s number one toy is the Knights’ Empire Castle from Playmobil, a large castle kids build themselves that features all the medieval amenities: a moat, a drawbridge, a catapult, a working hoist, a secret trapdoor, a king’s throne, a prisoner’s dungeon, and a breakthrough wall that buckles under attack.

The Top 10 FamilyFun T.O.Y. Award Winners of 2005 are...
