WEBWIRE

MBC AMERICA, the US Branch of Korean Broadcasting company MBC will broadcast an educational TV program based on the SATs (Scholastic Assessment Test) on August 15th via DirectTV.
This service is provided as an alternative to similar SAT workshops conducted nationwide. MBC AMERICA seeks to address the issues of rising costs of such workshops (between $6000 to $10000 in most cities) by providing a classroom learning environment beamed straight into the living room. This will also benefit students whose access to SAT workshops are not feasible due to location or distance. From the comfort of their homes, students will get quality SAT tuition for the price of a DirectTV subscription.
The show, aptly called The Prep will cover the entire SAT preparatory coursework. Techniques explored will encompass established learning aids as well as several innovative approaches unique only to the program.
Adopting the standard classroom format, the program then departs from that by focusing on each individual student, highlighting their dreams, aspirations and their goal to enter the top college of their choice. Interspersed within the lesson structure will be showcases of the students’ personal lives, parents and friends, as well as their hobbies and pastimes. Moments of levity, humor and occasional quiet reflections will highlight the human element of the program and carry the message that the SAT is not just a test but an experience that can be beneficial to the student in the long run.
The students featured in the program were chosen from a public audition and cover a broad spectrum of personalities and backgrounds of 9th and 10th graders. Some are born within the United States while some are new to the country. The pilot season will feature students from a Korean heritage. For future episodes, children from different cultures will be featured.
The instructor of the program has seventeen years of experience and has sent over thirty thousand students to colleges and universities of their choice. Even till today he still receives thank you cards from them and keeps in touch with a few to monitor their progress.
The Prep is due to air on August 15th 2007 at 11pm PST. It will premiere Eastside on the 18th at 8am EST. Both will show on DirectTV channel 2081.
The program is shot on high definition and will run about 45 minutes per episode.
A supplementary textbook is required to follow the program.
B-Roll will be provided upon request.
