Jason Christy of The Church Report applauds Senate Confirmation of John Roberts

Phoenix, AZ (Sept. 29, 2005) --- Jason Christy, publisher and editor in chief of The Church Report, applauded today’s U.S. Senate’s confirmation of John Roberts as Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Judge Roberts’ solid background as a supremely qualified jurist, his philosophy of judicial restraint, and his personal integrity mark him as an historic choice for this most crucial position in American jurisprudence,” said Christy. “I applaud the President for his fine choice, as well as our Senators for their quick confirmation.”

Roberts’ confirmation as the nation’s 17th Chief Justice came on a 78-22 vote, with the affirmation of all 55 Senate Republicans and about half of the 44-member Democratic/Independent minority. Roberts replaces William Rehnquist, who died September 3 rd after leading the High Court for 33 years.

Christy said he now anticipates a similar quality choice by the President to fill the spot of retired Associate Justice Sandra Day O’Connor. “This is a crucial period in the history of the Supreme Court,” explained Christy. “President Bush has the opportunity to ensure that for years to come the highest court in our nation will be guided by a majority of jurists dedicated to faithfully interpreting the Constitution. I encourage all Americans of faith to pray for our President as he makes this next important selection.”
