WEBWIRE

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently awarded $110,000 to the Tonkawa Tribe for the General Assistance Program (GAP). The primary purpose of GAP is to support the development of core tribal environmental protection programs. The tribe will use the funds to carry out project activities such as updating their solid waste management plan and environmental characterization. The tribe will also identify illegal dumpsites, conduct soil sampling at dumpsites, and clean up two dumpsites. Other projects to be carried out under this grant include creating maps using Geographic Information System techniques, attending environmentally related training, and conducting community outreach.
