Southern California Gas Company (The Gas Company) is offering a free promotion at this year’s Los Angeles County Fair in Pomona (Sept. 7-30) to help customers save natural gas and water. The Gas Company’s booth at the fair will offer Energy-Efficiency Starter Kits, which contain a low-flow showerhead and faucet aerators for the home.

These kits, valued at about $14 each, are among the most cost-effective ways to save water and help Southern California’s conservation efforts. Simple to install, these showerheads and aerators can reduce home water consumption by as much as 30 percent, while still providing the feeling of a full flow of water. They also reduce the energy associated with water heating.

The Gas Company’s booth at the Los Angeles County Fair this year will be at the Eco Now! Exhibit (in Building 4). The Gas Company also will hold drawings for three lucky customers to receive a new energy-efficient clothes washer, dishwasher or water heater. And the company’s employees will talk to fair-goers about energy efficiency, natural gas safety and other important energy issues.

Visitors also are being encouraged to bring their children to the Kid’s Corner of The Gas Company’s booth to learn about gas safety and energy efficiency, as well as receive free balloons, coloring books and other gifts.

In related news, The Gas Company recently increased its rebate funding for customers purchasing qualifying energy-efficient gas appliances. The company currently offers rebates on the following items:

Energy Star® furnaces: up to $200
Energy Star® clothes washers: $35
Energy Star® dishwashers: $30
Storage water heaters: $30
Attic/wall insulation: $0.15 per square foot

“Energy efficiency has become a major issue in California and elsewhere because it helps meet a variety of critical needs,” said Mark Gaines, The Gas Company’s director of customer programs. “It does more than save money for energy users – it helps meet our future energy needs by preserving precious resources, stimulates our economy and protects the environment.”

All rebates and incentives are subject to change without notice and offered on a first-come, first-served basis as long as funding is available. These programs are funded by California utility customers and administered by The Gas Company under the auspices of the California Public Utilities Commission.
