New Icelandair route to Toronto - via Reykjavik

Icelandair, which operates transatlantic services through Keflavik International Airport, Iceland, will add Toronto to its list of seven North American destinations from early next year.

The decision was taken following a new open-skies agreement signed by the Icelandic and Canadian authorities in Ottawa last week. It means airlines of both countries can now operate scheduled passenger and cargo air services between any city in Canada and Iceland without restrictions on the number of flights.

Icelandair currently operates services from London Heathrow, Glasgow and Manchester in the UK and from 14 other European airports. The Icelandic national carrier offers flights and package deals to Iceland and also the US and Canada, for which passengers travel via Keflavik International Airport near Reykjavik.

Icelandair allows passengers to break long transatlantic flights with a free stop-over in Iceland of up to 7 nights. This gives visitors enough time to visit the geothermal Blue Lagoon spa close to the airport, see some of the legendary Icelandic landscape or experience Reykjavik‘s famous nightlife and world-class restaurants.

North American destinations on offer include Halifax in Canada as well as New York, Boston, Washington, Baltimore, Orlando and Minneapolis in the US. Icelandair is also considering future services to Montreal, Winnipeg, Ottawa and St. John in Canada.

Icelandair will offer 5-7 flights per week throughout the year to Toronto, both Canada‘s largest city and main transportation hub. Flying time to Keflavik Iceland is 2.5 hours from London Heathrow and Toronto a further 5.5 hours. Icelandair currently operate 160 flights per week to 25 destinations in Europe and North America.
