U.S. EPA posts web feature story on MTBE cleanup at Martinez terminal
SAN FRANCISCO -- Today the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Pacific Southwest region launched a new web feature announcing the first phase of groundwater remediation at the Amorco Terminal in Martinez, Calif. has been completed.
As part of a joint effort with the California Regional Water Quality Control Board and other responsible parties, the facility has removed 4,100 pounds of MTBE from groundwater from the site.
Contaminated groundwater at the site poses a threat to the local environment because of its close proximity to the Carquinez Strait—a critical water channel sustaining plants and wildlife in the San Francisco estuary.
