New Tools Based On The 2007 Round Of Human Resource Competency Study Released

WEBWIRE

PROVO, UT – July 26, 2007 – The RBL Group and the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan and in cooperation with SHRM and other regional partners, released the HR Competency Suite, based on the latest round of the Human Resource Competency Study (HRCS).

“In closely examining over 400 companies and 10,000 participants all over the world, we are able to report with statistical accuracy what HR professionals and departments are doing and where critical competencies need to be further developed,” said Dave Ulrich, partner and founder of The RBL Group, and a professor of business at the Ross School of Business.

The 2007 round of HRCS yielded a new model that identifies the competencies needed by HR professionals in order to distinguish them. The HR Competency Suite was developed to reflect the work of this model and aides HR professional development in the following six competency domains:

• Credible Activist
• Culture and Change Steward
• Talent Manager / Organization Designer
• Strategy Architect
• Operational Executor
• Business Ally

The HR Competency Suite includes the following tools:

COMPANY HR COMPETENCY 360: The Company HR Competency 360 is a 360 degree process that includes both self and assessment by managers, peers, and non-HR internal and external clients. Upon completion of this assessment, participants receive a detailed Individual Feedback Report focusing on the six competency domains of the 2007 HRCS Model and the factors that comprise them, as well as global and company norms based on a proprietary database. The HR Leadership team also receives a Company Report that outlines the strengths and development opportunities based on the roll up of the HR professionals who participated. The Company Report can also be customized with comparative data slices such as geographic region, industry, organization level, etc.

IDIVIDUAL HR COMPETENCY 360: The Individual HR Competency 360 is a tool that can be utilized by individuals who wish to assess themselves outside of a department initiative. Similar to the Company version, the Individual HR Competency 360 provides an Individual Feedback Report that includes both self and assessment by managers, peers, and non-Hr internal and external clients. Scores are benchmarked against global and regional norms. Upon completion of the 360, participants have the option of utilizing the HR Competency Toolkit.

HR COMPETENCY SELF ASSESSMENT: The HR Competency Self-Assessment is an online self-scored assessment of the individual’s personal views on competency within the six domains and related factors. The HR Competency Self Assessment includes an Individual Feedback Report, self-reported scores against global and regional norms and the option of utilizing the HR Competency Toolkit, an online learning and action-planning workshop to help HR professionals make the most of their report.

HR COMPETENCY TOOLKIT: This toolkit is used in conjunction with either the HR Competency 360 or the HR Competency Self Assessment. The toolkit is an online learning and action planning workshop. The online learning portion of the toolkit provides a deeper understanding of the model itself and how it can be applied. The action planning portion of the toolkit gives case studies, definitions and development suggestions for each of the six domains and related factors as it helps HR professionals develop an action plan.

“This suite of tools helps organizations and individuals in identifying and adapting to critical trends in the market and in building an essential framework for HR strategy,” said Wayne Brockbank, partner at The RBL Group, and a professor of business at the Ross School of Business.

HRCI Credit hours are available with the tools within the HR Competency Suite. In addition to the HR Competency 360, The RBL Group offers additional products and services based on the results of the Human Resource Competency Study including:

To get the most out of the administration of the HR Competency 360, The RBL Group also offers an HR Competency 360 Feedback Session to help participants understand the results and create focused and meaningful development plans.
