Today Anystream announced that Creighton University in Omaha, Neb, joins the roster of the world’s finest higher education institutions to transform their student’s learning environment by liberating them from traditional classrooms with Apreso on-demand lectures. At Creighton, Apreso powers the world’s first and only Web-based Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree - a program accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE).

“Using Apreso, students all over the country are fulfilling their dreams of becoming pharmacists without disrupting their lives or transplanting their families to attend school,” said Tracy Chapman, executive director for eLearning and technology at Creighton University. “The impact of our degree on demand program has been wildly successful and beneficial to wide array of students. We even had a military reservist complete her courses from Iraq.”

Originally launched as a text-based program, Creighton added Apreso in 2006 to enhance the student learning experience. By offering an on-demand version of the classroom, Creighton’s distance PharmD students can access rich media versions of their courses via the Web from anywhere in the world. At Creighton, Apreso is used to capture audio and video of the professor as well as visual aids such as Microsoft PowerPoint or a SMART Sympodium. The files are automatically synchronized and streamed for playback online or download to iPod or other MP3 player.

“We collected data to compare student performance after deploying Apreso,” said Tracy Chapman. “From this evaluation we concluded that Apreso had a positive effect on both comprehension and student satisfaction. Contrary to current literature on the use of video for distance education courses, the pharmacy students almost unanimously indicated they want to see video of the instructor. Our students said they felt more connected to the course and instructor and that Apreso helped them maintain focus on the material being discussed.”

The increasing demand for pharmacists has led to extraordinary growth in the demand for pharmacy education. To answer this need Creighton has now dramatically increased their PharmD enrollment by educating 55 new distance learning students annually using Anystream’s Apreso.

“The faculty has embraced Apreso as an essential component to our distance learning program because the technology is completely automated and unobtrusive,” said Chapman. “We look forward to adding Apreso to more programs in the future.” For more information visit www.apreso.com
