Openreach today announced the appointment of Amy Chalfen as Director of Equivalence, Regulatory & Public Affairs, effective from the 15th August 2007. Currently Commercial Director for Geo, Amy has extensive experience within the telecoms industry, having held a range of legal and commercial positions within COLT Telecom and Geo (a Hutchison Whampoa company).

Amy will be responsible for ensuring that all of Openreach’s processes and policies - from how service is delivered to how new systems and products are prioritised - are fair and equivalent for all communication providers. In addition Amy will lead Openreach’s relationship with Ofcom and the Equality of Access Board. She replaces Emma Gilthorpe in the role, following Emma’s recent move to become Director Industry Policy & Regulation for BT Group.

After attaining a degree in anthropology from Cambridge, Amy worked as a corporate finance lawyer for Simmons & Simmons before joining COLT. She supported and then led COLT’s expansion projects for their long distance European network, before running the European product and commercial development functions. She then joined a team of three involved in creating the strategy for Geo, a Hutchison Whampoa company focused on dedicated fibre network sales, where she has most recently been responsible for sales and marketing.

Amy said: “I am delighted to be joining Openreach in such a crucial and exciting role. I firmly believe the continued delivery of Openreach’s commitments under the Strategic Review to be essential to the growth of a healthy telecoms sector in the UK and I look forward to working with Ofcom and industry to achieve this.”
