Independence Party Removes Fulani

The state committee of the Independence Party of New York voted overwhelmingly today to remove Dr. Lenora Fulani from the party’s executive committee. The support from the large majority of the state committee reaffirmed State Chairman Frank MacKay’s earlier comments that Party members want to send a strong message to the State and Nation that Fulani is not a leader in the Party and her anti-semitic remarks are intolerable.

The move comes in response to Fulani’s statements that Jews function as mass murderers of people of color. She denied that the statement was discriminatory or anti-Semitic and simultaneously promoted her “leadership” in the Independence Party.

Also removed from the Executive Committee were numerous members of the Manhattan Independence organization who are known Fulani activists and followers of Fred Newman, a New York City-based social therapist.

Chairman MacKay said: “Lenora Fulani’s offensive remarks have impacted each and every county organization in this state – and I am extremely pleased that our state committee took such a strong stand by removing not only Fulani, but others that have been supportive of her disturbing commentary. We could not honestly tell our Party members, our future members, New Yorkers or all Jews and Americans that we firmly responded if we failed to take this action.”

He further added, “People from all walks of life, from many points on the political spectrum, and from many cultures call themselves ‘independents’ and we welcome them into our ranks. I look forward to putting this unfortunate turn in Independence Party history behind us and refocusing the Party on bringing real, honest political reform to New York State.”
