Japanese Music Instrument Vendor Performs With Juniper Networks

Juniper Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: JNPR), the leader in high-performance networking, today announced that Roland Corporation, a Japanese-based manufacturer of musical instruments, has deployed Juniper Networks’ Secure Services Gateway (SSG) purpose-built security appliances to underpin its high-performance global WAN connecting domestic offices with over 20 overseas branches.

“We selected the SSG devices because they met our needs for easy deployment and comprehensive security features,” said Satoshi Otsuka, group leader of Roland’s Information Infrastructure Group. “Firewall appliances often use a confusing mix of different management interfaces, making the total solution more difficult to maintain, especially when security policies must be adjusted. In contrast, the entire SSG range uses a single management interface which saves our IT staff a considerable amount of time and allows us to deploy additional Juniper Networks security appliances without learning another user interface.”

The company deployed the SSG appliances to boost its network performance and separate firewall functionality into external and internal zones. The SSG 520 protects an external Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) while the SSG 550 protects internal resources such as email, database systems and other network resources for Roland’s globally located staff and business subsidiaries. The company is also planning to leverage the SSG’s VPN functionality at a later stage.

The Juniper Networks Secure Services Gateway 500 Series (SSG) represents a new class of purpose-built security appliance that delivers an ideal mix of performance, security and LAN/WAN connectivity for regional and branch office deployments. Traffic flowing in and out of the branch office is protected from worms, Spyware, Trojans, and malware by a complete set of optional Unified Threat Management (UTM) security features including Stateful firewall, IPSec VPN, IPS, Antivirus (includes instant message scanning, anti-spyware, anti-adware, anti-phishing), anti-spam, and web filtering.

“Roland’s growing international footprint was the impetus for its network redesign,” said Masanori Osuga, vice president of Japan for Juniper Networks. “The new topology features a layered security approach that balances high-performance with robust security, further leveraging the SSG’s comprehensive integrated security. As Japan’s enterprises expand their global presence, they will require similar networks that can be deployed and managed with low total cost of ownership.”
