Symantec Secures Tomorrow’s Defense Networks at CWID 2007

Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced it played a key role in participating in securing one of the world’s largest demonstrations for new military technology, the Coalition Warrior Interoperability Demonstration (CWID). Commissioned by the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, CWID is an annual global demonstration that involves more than 26 countries in testing new military capabilities. This year’s demonstration took place from June 4-22 at multiple sites around the world.

Symantec was presented the opportunity to demonstrate Intelligence Guided Computer Network Defense (IGCND ™) for NATO, the United Kingdom and Canada as part of an integrated approach to network security specifically designed to protect agile military networks of the future. This was the first time that a single supplier demonstrated this kind of capability and provided on-site security consulting on such a large scale to support overall CWID operations in those countries as well as the United States.

The IGCND solution provides forewarning and analysis to match security to current threats and offers opportunities for more efficient, flexible and effective use of network security devices. It improves information-sharing capabilities between coalition partners and helps reduce project risks and costs when deploying new military information systems.

The real-time IGCND system was deployed at four key CWID sites around the world and integrated with the Symantec Global Intelligence Network to provide an unparalleled view of emerging IT threats and vulnerabilities across the coalition. It allowed commanders to actively manage their network defenses inline with their mission priorities and optimize resources. The solution included not only technology but also the proven, hands-on knowledge and expertise of Symantec’s public sector consulting organization.
