LGBT $250,000 Donation for Hurricane Katrina Relief Efforts; International LGBT Charity Focuses on Humanitarian Aid

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 13 -- In response to Hurricane Katrina, Rainbow World Fund (RWF), a LGBT-based world relief agency, has raised $250,000 in donations to help survivors recover.

LGBT Community Responds: The lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community in the United States has responded in force to help their fellow Americans. Hundreds of fund-raisers in the LGBT community have taken place or are planned, from impromptu beer busts to elaborate parties and concerts. Since Katrina hit two weeks ago, RWF has raised more than $250,000 for hurricane relief, with more money on the way. RWF’s work is about serving humanity, we responding humanitarian crises helping both gay and straight alike.

Relief Partner: Rainbow World Fund is partnered with America’s Second Harvest (ASH), the nation’s largest food bank network, to provide food aid to the survivors of Hurricane Katrina. Donations will be used to provide meals and groceries, transport food to survivors, and secure additional warehouse space to help ASH’s food banks (many of which were affected by Katrina) to restore service and operations. 100 percent of the funds donated to the RWF Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund will go directly toward helping survivors recover.
