Wal-Mart Hits Home Run For Philly Police Athletic League

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. today announced its sponsorship of the Philadelphia Police Athletic League (PAL) 2007 Summer Youth Baseball program. The season kicked off on Friday, June 22 with a Homerun Derby competition at Belmont Plateau and the presentation of a $25,000 sponsorship check to PAL by Wal-Mart Stores representative, Steven Restivo.

“We make an effort to support programs that make a positive impact in the communities where we do business,” said Steven Restivo, Director of Corporate Affairs, Northeast Region, Wal-Mart Stores. “We are proud to support the Police Athletic League and all of their efforts throughout Philadelphia.”

The Wal-Mart PAL baseball program supports 600 boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 15, and provides them an opportunity to play baseball everyday from June through the playoffs, usually held at the end of July.

Lt. Susan Slawson, Commanding Officer of PAL said, “Wal-Mart’s gift is an incredible demonstration of their generosity. The $25,000 dollars they have given us makes it possible to give our youngsters a fun and safe summer baseball league complete with equipment, umpires and transportation all free of charge. We are very grateful for their support.”
