ANN ARBOR, Mich.– Borders has a hit on its hands with “Slip & Fall,” a thriller by screenwriter and first-time novelist Nick Santora. The book, which is the first novel Borders has published under its new proprietary and exclusive publishing program, debuted at #15 on today’s “The Wall Street Journal” bestseller list in the fiction category. Available exclusively through Borders and Waldenbooks, “Slip & Fall,” after its first week of sales, is one of the top 10 bestselling books at Borders, and with its appearance on “The Wall Street Journal” bestseller list, has now become one of the top selling titles in the nation.

“We knew we had a hit on our hands when we first reviewed Nick Santora’s manuscript and decided to make this compelling novel the first of many titles we intend to publish under our imprint, State Street Press,” said Bill Nasshan, senior vice president of trade books for Borders Group. “After just one week, this novel has captured the interest of thousands of our customers who agree with us that this book is really something special. It’s just the start of our publishing program and we are delighted to kick off this initiative with such a winner.”

Borders Group Chief Executive Officer George Jones added “The proprietary and exclusive publishing program is one of the key elements of our company’s strategic plan for the future. With this program, we are differentiating Borders from the competition by offering compelling titles that can only be purchased in our stores,” he said. “With over 18 million members of the Borders Rewards® loyalty program, and a strong network of stores shopped by millions of

customers each year, we believe that Borders has the capability to create bestsellers. The success of ‘Slip & Fall’ is an indication that we are on the right track with this initiative and we look forward to releasing future titles such as a 50th Anniversary of the GRAMMY Awards book and a John Legend Tour book.”

“Slip & Fall” is the story Robert Principe, a recent law school graduate with a struggling legal practice, pregnant wife and sister in trouble. Principe turns to organized crime to make money—fast. His scheme works only too well. The money flows and the violence escalates, and soon Principe finds that this one bad decision may cost him, and the family he loves, their lives.

Nick Santora is a writer and co-executive producer of the Fox television series “Prison Break.” He has written for several other series, including “The Sopranos,” “Law & Order” and “The Guardian,” as well as multiple feature films. A born-and-bred New Yorker, Nick graduated from Columbia Law School in 1996 and practiced law full time in Manhattan until 2001. He then moved to Los Angeles with his family to pursue a career as a professional writer. This decision was spurred by Nick’s first screenplay winning “Best Screenplay of the Competition” at the 2001

New York International Independent Film Festival. Since arriving in California, Nick has enjoyed writing for a living substantially more than litigating for a living. He is thrilled to be able to share his life with his wife and daughter.
