AT&T Boats to Recover Giants Splash Hits for Giants Community Fund

WEBWIRE

For the remainder of the 2007 season, the thrills and benefits of San Francisco Giants home runs that splash into McCovey Cove won’t end when the balls disappear into the water. Today marks the maiden voyage of the “AT&T McCovey Cove Crew,” who will navigate the waters behind AT&T Park in two small boats and attempt to recover home run balls hit by Giants players.

Balls recovered by the AT&T McCovey Cove Crew will be posted in an online auction at att.sfgiants.com, with all proceeds benefiting the Giants Community Fund, a nonprofit organization that supports Junior Giants baseball leagues for underserved youth throughout Northern California. In addition, every time a Giants player hits a ball into McCovey Cove, AT&T will donate $1,000 to the Giants Community Fund, regardless of whether the ball is recovered by the AT&T McCovey Cove Crew or not.

“AT&T is proud to support the Giants Community Fund and its use of baseball as a forum to encourage youngsters and families to live healthy, productive lives,” said Melba Muscarolas, AT&T’s vice president and general manager for the San Francisco market area.
