Thomson PPS Announces Launch of New Hypertension Web Site for Healthcare Professionals

Controlhypertension.org Launches

Nearly one in three American adults suffers from high blood pressure (hypertension), according to the American Heart Association. In an effort to help clinicians prevent or minimize their patients’ serious health conditions that result from high blood pressure, the National Campaign to Control Hypertension(SM) (NCCH(SM)) is launching its Web site, controlhypertension.org. The NCCH is a medical education initiative offering a wide range of programs and activities to enhance clinicians’ knowledge of hypertension and to identify clinically effective ways to reduce its associated risks.

This initiative is sponsored by Thomson Professional Postgraduate Services (PPS), a part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) – a leader in information solutions for healthcare and scientific professionals. The NCCH is funded by an unrestricted educational grant from Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation.

Controlhypertension.org is designed specifically for the needs of primary-care physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals who treat patients with hypertension.

Controlhypertension.org provides physicians and healthcare professionals with practical tools including:

* a comprehensive slide library (updated monthly)
* literature reviews (updated monthly)
* cardiovascular news (updated daily)
* a continuing medical education (CME)-certified newsletter
* a clinical trials resource center

Plus, the Web site offers patient education materials and an events calendar where registered users can enroll for NCCH programs.

The literature reviews include expert commentary from NCCH faculty who give the clinical data context to help healthcare professionals manage their challenging clinical issues. Other areas of the site are updated when major breakthroughs occur so that users have immediate access to the latest information. As controlhypertension.org expands, it will contain more CME activities including interactive case studies.
