Emergency drill scheduled Saturday morning near Argonne site

WEBWIRE

Argonne National Laboratory will be host on Saturday to a multiple-agency emergency drill that will take place along South Cass Avenue near the Argonne site next to Darien.

The drill will begin about 8:30 a.m., and will include police and fire departments from 10 jurisdictions across DuPage County, including hazardous materials response teams, who will dress in full gear as part of the exercise. The exercise is expected to conclude at about 2:30 p.m.

The simulated incident will take place near Argonne’s east entrance, and the emergency response equipment will be staged at the entrance to Argonne park, so the events will be visible to passers-by. Signs along Cass Avenue will be posted to indicate that the event is a drill and not an actual emergency.

The nation’s first national laboratory, Argonne National Laboratory conducts basic and applied scientific research across a wide spectrum of disciplines, ranging from high-energy physics to climatology and biotechnology. Since 1990, Argonne has worked with more than 600 companies and numerous federal agencies and other organizations to help advance America’s scientific leadership and prepare the nation for the future. Argonne is managed by UChicago Argonne, LLC for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science.
