MassMutual Announces New Board Member

(Springfield, MA) - Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) today announced it has elected Thomas C. Barry as the newest member of its Board of Directors. Mr. Barry, 63, is CEO and founder of Zephyr Management, L.P., a New York City-based specialized investment firm.

“Tom brings a broad range of experience and expertise to MassMutual and we are delighted he has joined the Board,” said MassMutual Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Stuart H. Reese. “We look forward to Tom’s independent perspective as we continue to evolve and implement strategic initiatives to maximize the value of the Company for our policyholders.”

Mr. Barry founded Zephyr Management in 1994, and today the firm has total committed capital of $1.5 billion. Prior to founding Zephyr Management, he was the President and Chief Executive Officer of Rockefeller & Co., Inc. from 1983 to 1993. The firm provided financial counsel and investment management to members of the Rockefeller family, other families and charitable institutions.

Mr. Barry was a Principal and Founder of Saratoga Associates (1982-1983), and prior to that he held numerous investment positions with T. Rowe Price Associates (1973-1982). Previously, he was the Director of Mutual Fund Marketing (1981-1982), Director of Research (1979-1981), and President and Director of the T. Rowe Price New Horizons Fund (1979-1982). He was also Chairman of the Investment Committee of New Horizons Fund (1973-1979).

Prior to that, Mr. Barry was a Partner in the investment firm Cole, Thompson & Barry (1971-1973) and a Security Analyst with T. Rowe Price Associates (1969-1970). Previously, from 1966 to 1967, he was with Corning Glass Works as a Market Research Analyst in Brazil, Japan and Belgium.

Mr. Barry is a Member of the Council on Foreign Relations; Dean’s Council, John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University; Advisory Board, The European Institute of Business Administration (INSEAD); President, IMEF, INSEAD’S charitable foundation; Yale University President’s Council on International Affairs; Trustee of The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, CT; Trustee, University School, Hunting Valley, OH; Director, TechnoServe; and Harvard Business School Alumni Association Board of Directors.
