Public asked to contribute gift cards to benefit Mott patients, families

ANN ARBOR, MI – On Monday, Jun e 18, the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor will host a special event – a gift card shower – to collect gift cards for the patients and families at the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. The event will be held from noon to 1:15 p.m. at the Kiwanis Activity Center at 200 S. First St. in Ann Arbor.

Those who attend the event are encouraged to help to support Mott by bringing a gift card (maximum value $20) from stores such as Target, Meijer or Wal-Mart.

For the patients and families at Mott, gift cards make it possible for them to purchase necessities and other items that will help to ease their hospital stay, says Kimberley Barker, manager of Community Relations at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital.

“Hospitalization can place a lot of stress on families and patients, and gift cards go a long way to making them feel more comfortable during their stay,” says Barker. “The Kiwanis gift card shower also provides an excellent opportunity for the community to become involved with our hospital. We are extremely grateful for all the Kiwanis Club has done over the years in support of Mott, and the gift card shower is just another example of their big hearts and generosity.”

For more than 80 years, the Kiwanis Club has lent its support to Mott, and was instrumental in starting the Child and Family Life Program, which coordinates programs and services to alleviate the impact of hospitalization on Mott children and their families.

At the June 18 event, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital speakers will include associate director and chief administrative officer Pat Warner, who is an honorary member of the Kiwanis Club of Ann Arbor; Dan Fischer, director of Child and Family Life; and Kelly Parent, parent coordinator. The public is welcome to attend this event, but registration is required. To register, contact Lynne Lande at lplande@livingonline.com or (734) 649-0583.

To contribute to the Kiwanis gift card shower for Mott, send gift cards to John Bassett, Secretary of the Ann Arbor Kiwanis Club, at 1100 Clague Ave., Ann Arbor, 48103.
