Deadline Nears to Submit Essay Entries for the 2005 Steps to College Statewide Latino Writing Contest

ATHENS, Ga., Aug. 25 -- The deadline for submitting entries for the 2005 Steps to College Statewide Latino Writing Contest -- sponsored by The University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education and the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach- must be received at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education by 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 29.

High-school students from throughout the state are invited to submit 150-350-word essays on the topic “Why going to college/university will help me better serve Georgia’s Latino community.” Six winning essays will be selected from throughout the state.

Each winning writer and a parent will receive two days of fun and entertainment on the University of Georgia campus, Sept. 24 to Sept. 25. Winners receive Saturday night lodging for two at the at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Hotel and Conference Center, Ice Cream Social for all winners and guests, Saturday lunch and supper, Sunday breakfast and lunch, awards ceremony activities while at UGA, parking, transportation mileage reimbursement of .28/mile from winner’s home to UGA, and more.
