A new, independent research report states IBM (NYSE: IBM) is “the strongest” unified software change and configuration management vendor. Software change and configuration management (SCCM) solutions permit IT organizations to manage changes made to software during development and maintenance.

The Forrester Wave™: Software Change And Configuration Management, Q2 2007, by Carey Schwaber report evaluated 11 solutions across 123 criteria, and revealed that IBM is again the unified front runner in SCCM. Most notably, Forrester cited IBM’s core strengths as platform support and scalability; its configuration and change management capabilities earned the highest score.

For example, according to the report, “IBM’s solution also has the best proven scalability: 9,270 users on a single instance of the solution, 95 linked development sites, and 1.7 terabytes managed by a single repository.”

“Forrester’s evaluation of unified SCCM solutions focuses on yet another market where IBM is at the head of the pack,” said Dr. Danny Sabbah, general manager, IBM Rational Software. “We have a strong product road map and a complete software development solution. We support more SCCM integrations than many other vendors in the areas of development and modeling, deployment, and portfolio management.”

The Forrester Wave also noted, “IBM’s solution is also a good fit for shops that use IBM SCLM, Rational build management products, and Tivoli systems management products, due to the current and future integrations among these products.”

Forrester also gave strong marks to IBM’s Ready for IBM Rational Software program and the strong partnerships it has forged with technology vendors. The Ready for IBM Rational Software program validates that integration between IBM Business Partner products and Rational products meets IBM’s requirements for interoperability and user experience.

IBM’s comprehensive change and release management products help development teams respond quickly to change in all stages of the software development process. IBM Rational software helps clients work smarter for increased productivity, improved software quality, and better visibility into the entire software development lifecycle, which helps deliver software faster. The IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform sets IBM apart from single platform vendors who have less ability to support geographically distributed software development teams.

IBM plans to unveil new change and configuration management software at its upcoming IBM Rational Software Development Conference, which begins on June 10, 2007, in Orlando, Florida.

IBM helps developers remain competitive in today’s fast-paced development environment. Innovative programs such as IBM developerWorks, the premier technical resource for software developers, and IBM alphaWorks, IBM’s emerging technologies outlet, provide an online community for the developers of today and tomorrow. Developers who are independent software vendors can take advantage of sales and marketing tools, skill-building courses and technical support by joining the worldwide IBM PartnerWorld program. IBM’s Academic Initiative and IBM Rational Software Development Conference are examples of the ongoing learning and community-building programs needed by students, educators and developers worldwide.
