Roots Selects Fujitsu POS Hardware and Maintenance Service

Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. today announced that Roots, the leading Canadian lifestyle brand, will replace its point-of-sale (POS) hardware chain-wide with Fujitsu TeamPoS 3000 POS terminals.

Roots will pilot the solution in May, and will begin a 120-store rollout this summer, installing more than 270 TeamPoS 3000 units across all Roots locations in Canada and the United States. The agreement also includes a five-year service agreement for the new POS hardware.

“As our current POS systems reach their end of life, we need a retail-hardened solution that will efficiently enable new software initiatives like customer relationship management and an integrated gift card program. Fujitsu’s TeamPoS 3000 is the best fit for our needs,” said Robin Nelson, director of IT for Roots. “We are also impressed with Fujitsu’s Retainer Plus Services Model, which provides an attractive maintenance services pricing structure that allows us to lower our total cost of ownership.”

The TeamPoS 3000 POS system, based on Intel® Pentium® M and Celeron® M processors, offers improved reliability, enhanced serviceability and support for the latest peripheral technology. The terminals adhere to RoHS and WEEE “green” standards, and feature a strategically designed chassis that offers easy access to major components from the front, reducing retailers’ downtime and maintenance costs.

“Since the introduction of TeamPoS 3000, Fujitsu has experienced tremendous success deploying the systems at retailers in both Canada and the United States. Fujitsu develops strong customer relationships by listening to their specific requirements and offering flexible configurations to meet their needs. This agreement with Roots illustrates that success,” said Peter Sciberras, general manager and vice president of sales, Canada, Fujitsu Transaction Solutions. “The TeamPoS 3000 gives Roots more flexibility and reliability at the point-of-sale, and it provides the performance and functionality needed to deploy new software offerings that will further enhance their store environment and customer satisfaction.”

Fujitsu’s Retainer Plus Services Model redefines the store systems maintenance contract, and offers an incentive-based program under which the retailer and Fujitsu collaborate to reduce redundant and low-value service activity. The result is an efficient and effective program that continually lowers retailers’ maintenance costs and improves equipment up-time.
