Teradata Travel Expert Will Provide Business Case on Improving Airline Revenues and Performance Management

WEBWIRE

LONDON — Teradata, a division of NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR), announced today that Travel and Transportation Centre of Expertise director Wayne Miller will deliver a detailed case study on the value of integrated Passenger Name Records (PNRs) and enterprise data management for the airline industry’s Travel Distribution Summit in London May 22 and 23 at the Business Design Centre.

Miller will address senior executives in marketing, pricing, route planning and information management on “Creating Actionable Strategy Through Enterprise Data Management Analysis” on May 23 at 11 a.m. The case study will show how an integrated, centralized approach to information management can result in fact-based operational and strategic action with significant cost reduction and steady revenue growth.

“Today’s airline industry is under tremendous economic pressure, and can benefit dramatically from exploring new ways to leverage the power of PNR data,” said Miller. “What if it could be integrated with other critical data, such as scheduling, flight data, departure control, inventory, customer care, finance, security, and maintenance information? How could decision-makers better understand product demand and customer behavior to improve and accelerate tactical decisions? What improvements could be made to business intelligence strategy if airlines completely understood all the drivers of profitability? How would customers react if everyone across the company seemed to know them?”

Miller’s business case presentation will demonstrate the value of the fully versioned PNR as the foundation for an enterprise view and discuss the complete cost, revenue and analytical benefits of this approach.

Miller’s research shows that travel companies using a centralized, integrated PNR data warehouse in the area of revenue management achieve improvement in revenues ranging from 0.5 percent up to 4 percent or more. “That’s in addition to the value of differentiating their business through improved insight into customer preferences and behavior, booking, ticket, itinerary, and sales information,” Miller said. “This clearly brings a competitive advantage to many areas of an airline. By integrating PNR data with other information, airlines can improve customer loyalty, adapt quickly and proactively to the changing marketplace, hone business insight, improve employee productivity and efficiency, identify and control fraudulent activity, and enhance profitability.”

Miller is the senior partner for travel and transportation industry consulting for Europe, Middle East and Africa. He joined Teradata in 2000, bringing more than 20 years of airline experience gained in commercial management, route development and other areas for leading airlines including British Air, Swissair, Saudia, Lauda Air and Dan Air.
