Title Sponsor of the All-American Soap Box Derby Recognizes 24 Families Nationwide

Today, officials from the All-American Soap Box Derby (AASBD) and the Levi Strauss Signature® brand announced the 24 families being honored as state recipients of the 2007 Levi Strauss Signature Family of the Year award.

For the third consecutive year, the Levi Strauss Signature brand has honored families within the Soap Box Derby community who exemplify the core values of both the brand and the AASBD: teamwork, dedication, competition, perseverance and good sportsmanship.

Vice President of Marketing for the Levi Strauss Signature brand, Aaron Carpenter, said, “It is a privilege for the Levi Strauss Signature brand to recognize this group of families as state recipients this year, as each exhibits a deep commitment and enthusiasm for Derby racing. The core values of the All-American Soap Box Derby are preserved by the types of families acknowledged by the Levi Strauss Signature Family of the Year program.”

As a state recipient, each family will receive a congratulatory plaque and represent its respective state in the search for 12 regional finalists, one of which will be named the 2007 Levi Strauss Signature Family of the Year. The national Family of the Year will be announced and honored during weekend activities at the 70th All-American Soap Box Derby Championship presented by the Levi Strauss Signature brand, held on July 21, 2007 in Akron, Ohio. The national Family of the Year will also receive a full wardrobe courtesy of the Levi Strauss Signature brand.

“Through the Levi Strauss Signature Family of the Year program, we are able demonstrate our appreciation to those families whose passion for the All-American Soap Box Derby have sustained its traditions for over 70 years,” said Jim Huntsman, CEO / President, All-American Soap Box Derby.

The year-round AASBD season culminates with the annual event in Akron where more than 500 race participants representing more than 40 states and five countries (Japan, Germany, New Zealand, Guam and the Philippines) compete for championship titles and college scholarships provided by the Levi Strauss Signature brand. Boys and girls ages 8-17 build their own gravity-powered car from kits purchased from the AASBD, typically with assistance from a parent or other adult.
