IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced it was the leading enterprise content management (ECM) vendor in worldwide software revenue for 2006, according to a recent report issued by the independent research firm Gartner, Inc.[1] The report states that IBM led all vendors of enterprise content management revenue. Enterprise Content Management includes core capabilities like integrated document management, web content management, records management, document capture, document-based collaboration and workflow.

IBM attained the number one position in the ECM market which, according to Gartner, grew by 12 percent in 2006 compared with 2005. Gartner also stated that the growth in 2006 was driven by new interest in web content management, records management and content archiving.

IBM believes that as the industry leader in Enterprise Content Management marketshare, the combined FileNet and IBM content management software portfolio, hardware, and services provide clients choices to best meet their needs, whether for business process integration, compliance and risk management, or point solutions for specific business requirements, all of which may require content integration in a multi-vendor environment.

“We are committed to supporting both the FileNet and IBM enterprise content management platforms and are focused on helping clients preserve their investments in existing content repositories, data and applications,” said Lee Roberts, general manager, Enterprise Content Management for IBM. “IBM’s comprehensive enterprise content management portfolio is enabling clients to better compete and pursue new business opportunities by using information as a strategic asset.”

With more than 17,000 customers, IBM’s enterprise content management portfolio supports a services oriented architecture in multiple infrastructure environments such as HP, SUN, Microsoft Windows and Oracle, as well as IBM’s own infrastructure including DB2, WebSphere and AIX.
