An Update from the Fair Play Task Force
Hunters,
In our last developer livestream, we mentioned that we would give you an update from the Fair Play Task Force very soon. The time has come, and we have two important elements we want to share with you today.
Fair Play Follow Up
We are happy to announce that the Fair Play Follow Up feature is now live. What does it mean for you, you may ask?
Moving forward, when we ban a player, two things will happen:
- If you reported them for cheating, you will get notified that we have taken action against the cheater
- If you were killed by them, you will get compensation, along with all the people who were killed within a specific timeframe, for potentially being the victim of a cheater.
The compensation will be 1000 Hunt Dollars, which was calculated by adding the average loadout and Hunter cost, and rounding it up. This is a first step, and we plan to adjust the system and compensation as we receive your feedback.
This said, receiving compensation doesn’t mean that you were killed by someone who used a hack, but rather that we compensate everybody who was potentially affected. This means there is no 1:1 relation between the compensation and being the victim of a cheater. We will also compensate people killed whether or not the cheat was enabled when it happened. It may make it seem like cheating is more prevalent than it actually is. However, we prefer taking this larger approach, making the game a better place to be.
Let’s use a hypothetical example using real data:
We apply 279 bans for cheating. 1074 people have reported them and receive a notification. However, we judge that 8147 people were affected, and thus all 8147 (including those who have made a report) will receive 1000 Hunt Dollars.
High-Ping Queue Test
One of THE most requested topics is regarding High-Ping Matchmaking. We are happy to report that we will be running a test on the European servers during Chapter 3. The objective is to experiment with the ways we separate players with a ping above 125 ms (this value is subject to change during the test) from regular players to reduce their exposure to high-latency gameplay.
What to Expect
If your ping is above the threshold, you will be matchmade with other high ping players. After a set period, if no match is found in the high ping queue, you will have the option to find a “normal” match. Be aware that because of that, if you have a low ping, you may still encounter players with high ping in your Missions. The goal, however, remains to limit these instances as much as possible, while not forcing people out of the game.
For Groups
Teams work in the same manner as solo matchmaking. At the start of the test, we will use the highest ping of the team to decide if they’ll enter the high ping matchmaking queue. As with everything else, we will keep an eye on the results and your feedback, and iterate accordingly.
Those are your most recent updates from the Fair Play Task Force. We look forward to reading your thoughts on Discord and Reddit.
