Gorman Ruggiero Brings Global Stories to Young Audiences Through “10 Plays from Around the World: Volume 1”
A collection of engaging plays that introduces children to different cultures while sharing meaningful lessons about life and the world.
Gorman John Ruggiero’s “10 Plays from Around the World: Volume 1” brings together stories inspired by cultures, folk tales, myths, fairy tales, and classic works from around the world. A graduate of the SUNY at Purchase Conservatory of Acting with a degree in playwriting, Ruggiero also holds a master’s degree in the science of psychology with a specialty in brain function and is an award-winning actor with credits in live theater, television, and film.
The collection features ten plays that explore universal themes through imaginative stories and memorable characters. Readers will encounter animals searching for a safe and warm home, a town where fun is forbidden, a clever cat helping his master succeed, a family trying to solve the mystery of disappearing beans, and a boy who travels to a parallel world, among other tales. The collection also includes the original Cinderella story from Egypt, a tale of an ambitious Italian peasant, a magical pot that gives birth to a baby pot, a Shakespearean tale, and the story of Pandora.
Ruggiero created these plays for child actors participating in World Theatre of Children, where he serves as director and trains young performers. Through the program, he has produced more than 70 plays, most of which are adaptations of world folk tales, myths, fairy tales, and original works. “10 Plays from Around the World: Volume 1” reflects his experience in developing theatrical works that encourage children to think, understand different perspectives, and discover valuable lessons about life.
Ruggiero is also preparing to delight young readers with “Creatures That Fly Watch Over Me,” an upcoming children’s book he plans to launch before December 2026. Following the changing seasons, this heartwarming poem features birds, butterflies, fireflies, and other fascinating creatures as a child finds comfort in Grandpa’s words while discovering the wonders of nature throughout the year. With its gentle rhythm and comforting message, the book encourages children to explore the natural world with curiosity, wonder, and peace.
Readers will find “10 Plays from Around the World: Volume 1” as an engaging collection of universal stories that introduces children to different cultures while encouraging thought, understanding, and meaningful life lessons. Although originally written for child actors, the plays can be performed by people of any age, making the collection accessible to young performers, families, educators, and theater groups.
“10 Plays from Around the World: Volume 1” motivates readers to explore different cultures and discover meaningful lessons through stories created for the stage. An engaging collection for readers and performers alike, the book is available for purchase through Amazon and other major online book retailers.
