Mode.Inc Acquires JibJab and Four Additional Businesses as Total Funding Surpasses $120 Million

CHICAGO, IL – WEBWIRE –
  • Acquisitions expand Mode’s portfolio across digital entertainment, AI study tools, mobile utilities and consumer research
  • Mode’s crowdfunding round completed its first close after raising over $120 million, a portion of which funded the JibJab acquisition

Mode.Inc, a consumer technology platform that acquires and scales consumer apps and returns value to the people using them, today announced the acquisition of JibJab, the digital entertainment company best known for its personalized Ecards and videos that helped define early internet culture. The transaction is Mode’s largest acquisition in 2026.

Founded in 1999, JibJab builds upon a legacy as an early pioneer of digital technology as one of the first apps on Apple’s iMessage platform where it was recognized as a featured app. Today, hundreds of thousands of people subscribe to JibJab’s premium offerings, and its personalized Ecard content has surpassed 1 billion views. Since its 2019 acquisition by Catapult Capital, JibJab has remained a profitable business generating tens of millions in revenue annually.

Mode will integrate JibJab into its proprietary rewards and monetization engine, EarnOS. The company plans to expand JibJab’s free app offering to allow users to share their data in exchange for rewards and premium features. For more than 20 years, JibJab’s revenue came almost entirely from subscriptions. EarnOS creates new revenue opportunities through premium upgrades, advertising, and permission-based data, strengthening its economic model. Mode used the same approach when it acquired Trimbox, driving a 43% increase in monthly recurring revenue since its acquisition.

“Consumers have created enormous value for digital platforms for decades,” said Dan Novaes, co-founder and CEO of Mode.Inc. “Our vision is to return that value to the people creating it. JibJab has built a loyal community over more than 20 years. By bringing that community into the Mode ecosystem, we’re creating new opportunities for those users to benefit from the value they create while preserving the experience that made JibJab successful.”

“The JibJab team is excited for this next chapter as part of Mode.Inc. Leveraging Mode’s platform, we plan to broaden our product offering, revenue opportunities, and increase our user base,” said Paul Hanges, CEO of JibJab, who will continue to lead the JibJab team as part of the acquisition.

The acquisition continues Mode’s strategy of building a portfolio of established consumer businesses. Alongside JibJab, Mode has acquired:

  • TLDL (Too Long, Didn’t Listen): An AI study app that turns lectures and other materials into notes, flashcards and quizzes, expanding Mode’s reach among students.

  • Smart Cleaner: A mobile utility that helps users free up storage and organize photos, videos and contacts, broadening Mode’s portfolio of everyday smartphone tools.

  • Easy Clean: An iPhone app for removing duplicate photos and managing storage, adding another audience for Mode’s mobile utility offerings.

  • Orchard Insights: A market research business that tests products and messaging through real-world consumer behavior, adding capabilities for turning behavioral data into insights for brands.

“JibJab adds a new category of consumer engagement through its unique approach to celebrating birthdays, holidays, and milestones with personalized content,” said Dan Hoffer, SVP Corporate Development. “It also expands Mode’s user base to a demographic group that spends heavily in the U.S. and is often the most desired in many commercially available behavioral datasets.”

Demand for permission-based behavioral data has increased the value of consumer platforms that have opted-in audiences. As AI developers look for first-party data to train their models, Mode’s portfolio broadens the range of consumer activity represented across its apps while also giving users the opportunity to benefit financially from the value their digital activity creates.

Mode has raised more than $120 million from over 68,000 investors via Regulation A+, a framework that allows everyday people to purchase equity in the company. The offering recently completed its first close, with a portion of the proceeds funding the JibJab acquisition. Mode expects to launch a second tranche following SEC requalification.
