Data Conversion Laboratory Enhances Harmonizer with New Style-Based Analysis
DCL’s Tool Facilitates DITA and Topic Map Planning Before Conversion
This update to Harmonizer allows users to zero in on a specific content type for analysis, which is critical for regulated industries where inconsistent language in warnings, for example, is a major compliance risk.
Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL), a leader in structured data and content transformations, announces new functionality in its Harmonizer product that adds style-based analysis for Word documents, enabling reuse analysis to target the most important material in technical documentation and knowledge management. Harmonizer is a software application that analyzes documents across an entire collection to provide insights into content redundancy, inconsistencies, and structure improvements.
While Harmonizer can analyze many document formats, including PDF files, most organizations keep the bulk of legacy content in Word, and much of it is tagged with styles. Until now, analyzing it meant treating all the text the same way and with equal weight. There was no easy way to focus on or filter out types of content (e.g., headings, warnings, notes, or procedures) as can be done when analyzing tagged formats. By implementing style-based filtering in Harmonizer, users can focus content reuse analysis on the substantive material that matters most and disregard boilerplate content such as headers, footers, and copyright notices.
“This update to Harmonizer allows users to zero in on a specific content type for analysis, which is critical for regulated industries where inconsistent language in warnings, for example, is a major compliance risk,” explains Christopher Hill, Technical Product and Project Manager at DCL. “For example, Harmonizer can now focus specifically on Warning or Caution text across a documentation set and find variations to correct.”
Ultimately, content and tech doc teams can make better decisions earlier about their content collections. This enables organizations to better plan for DITA based on evidence from their own libraries.
