Barnes & Noble Opens New Store in Atlanta, GA
Author James Dean to Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony and Book Signing at the Grand Opening at 10AM on Wednesday, October 21st, 2026
Barnes & Noble is pleased to announce the opening of its new Atlanta, GA bookstore on Wednesday, October 21 st, in the vibrant neighborhood of Toco Hills. The new Atlanta store is located in the Toco Hills Shopping Center, 2943-C North Druid Hills Road in the space formerly occupied by Westside Market.
Barnes & Noble has had its share of drama in Atlanta recently. In August, it was forced to close its historic and much-loved bookstore in Cumberland. More happily, it reopened in Edgewood in July, bringing back a bookstore to the neighborhood in which it closed in 2022, and the new Toco Hills store restores the number of its bookstores in the Atlanta area. The next activity for the bookseller is to relocate its bookstore just a few doors down in Peachtree Corners.
The design of the Toco Hills store showcases the ambition of Barnes & Noble to create exceptional local bookstores that marry the best traditions of independent bookselling with the resources of the historic chain. The store is over 14,000 square feet and will offer a comprehensive range of books as well as toys, games, magazines, gifts, vinyl, greeting cards and more. The store will officially open to the public at 10AM eastern on Wednesday the 21 st, with local author James Dean cutting the ribbon and signing copies of his acclaimed book series, Pete the Cat. Costume Character Pete the Cat will also join the festivities and host special story time events over the weekend.
Barnes & Noble is enjoying a period of tremendous growth as the strategy to hand control of each bookstore to its local booksellers has proven so successful. The bookseller is experiencing strong sales in its existing stores and has been opening many new stores after more than 15 years of declining store numbers. The new Toco Hills Barnes & Noble is one of three stores to open on October 21 st, joining stores in Littleton, MA and Ontario Mills, CA. Barnes & Noble now boasts over 730 bookstores, with total of 60 new openings expected in 2026.
Barnes & Noble Premium and Rewards Members will earn double stamps on all purchases made between October 21 st and October 25 th. Customers who are not yet Members are encouraged to sign up and start earning stamps and rewards right away.
Everyone who visits the new Toco Hills Barnes & Noble during the grand opening will have access to exclusive deals, like $50 off any NOOK device. Customers can also save 40% on all DVD, Blu-ray, and 4k Ultra HD movies.
“We are very pleased to open another beautiful new Barnes & Noble in Atlanta,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “There has been an unprecedented investment in Atlanta, with relocations for the Edgewood store and next in The Forum at Peachtree Corners, as well as the new bookstore at Toco Hills. It remains for us to find a replacement store for our much-missed Cumberland location.”
Store Manager David Mason, a long-term veteran bookseller with Barnes and Noble, said, “I enjoyed opening the Dawsonville, GA location in 2024 with a team of amazing booksellers. I’m eager to continue that tradition by building a new team in a brand new and exciting location in Georgia.”
