Siemens Medical Solutions Revolutionizes Electrophysiology With syngo(R) DynaCT Cardiac Enhancement Enables 3D Visualization of the Left Atrium, Reducing the Need for Pre-Procedural CT or MR Imaging, and Facilitating Improved Workflow
Siemens announces the latest innovation in electrophysiology (EP) solutions with the introduction of syngo(R) DynaCT Cardiac, which enables 3D imaging comparable to computed tomography (CT) in the EP lab during procedures. Building upon Siemens’ breakthrough syngo DynaCT technology, this solution enhances diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities by enabling electrophysiologists for the first time to visualize the left atrium in 3D during complex cardiac procedures, virtually eliminating the need for time-consuming pre-procedural CT or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams. syngo DynaCT Cardiac will be featured in the Siemens booth (# 129) at the 28th Annual Scientific Sessions of the Heart Rhythm Society from May 9 through May 12 in Denver.
"syngo DynaCT Cardiac brings a whole new level of efficient, integrated workflow to the EP lab to meet the increasing demand to diagnose and treat patients with cardiac arrhythmias" said Claus Grill, vice president, Angiography, Cardiac, and X-ray Systems, Siemens Medical Solutions. "Obtaining a combination of electrophysiological and morphological data is increasingly important for electrophysiologists, and having 3D images of the heart at the table can help significantly optimize productivity in the lab and shorten procedures for patients"
During an interventional procedure in which CT scans are required, moving the patient out of the sterile environment and onto a CT scanner can be cumbersome and pose risk of complications. syngo DynaCT Cardiac enables CT-like imaging to be performed directly in the EP lab without loss of time or added risk to the patient.
"syngo DynaCT Cardiac has the potential to revolutionize imaging and interventional practices in the cardiac EP lab" said Amin Al-Ahmad, M.D., assistant professor of cardiovascular medicine, Stanford University Medical Center - one of the first facilities in the world to install syngo DynaCT Cardiac. "By opening the door to these new imaging technologies, the impact can be significant on the way in which we deliver healthcare"
Electrophysiology is the fastest growing of all cardiovascular disciplines, as roughly 550,000 new patients are diagnosed with cardiac arrhythmias in the United States each year. From recording to cardiac angiography, and from electroanatomical mapping to magnetic catheter navigation, Siemens offers one of the industry’s most comprehensive EP solutions to help improve clinical outcomes and integrate workflow.
Other EP-related technologies that will be highlighted at Heart Rhythm 2007 include:
-- AXIOM Artis - The AXIOM Artis family of imaging systems delivers brilliant images combined with advanced dose reduction packages, while improving signal-to-noise-ratio in moving areas even at low doses.
-- AXIOM Sensis XP - The new generation of integrated recording solutions offers customizable workflow support programs and new advanced measurement functions. A true combo solution, the system combines both electrophysiology and hemodynamics and supports diagnostic excellence.
-- Magnetic Catheter Navigation - The combination of Stereotaxis Inc.’s magnetic navigation system NIOBE(R) and Siemens’ AXIOM Artis dFC flat detector imaging technology brings together the power of two permanent magnets and a magnetic-tipped catheter device. This solution enables electrophysiologists to precisely navigate catheters and guidewires through the vessels and chambers of the heart, improving the speed and accuracy of catheter-based procedures.
-- CARTO(TM) XP EP Navigation System - The CARTO(TM) XP EP Navigation System from Biosense Webster was the first 3D electroanatomical navigation system. Providing excellent views into the electrical activity of the heart through real-time data on 3D, color-coded cardiac maps, it provides precise tracking of catheter location, facilitating an accurate diagnosis.
Siemens’ syngo DynaCT Cardiac technology enhances diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities in the interventional suite by enabling the acquisition of soft tissue images with AXIOM Artis small and large detector systems. Up until the introduction of syngo DynaCT Cardiac, 3D angiography only enabled the visualization of high-contrast objects such as stents, clips, bones and contrast-filled vessels during interventional procedures. With the introduction of syngo DynaCT Cardiac, it is now possible to obtain soft tissue information while performing interventional procedures, which improves physician decision-making and thus helps provide better patient management.
