At the second preliminary regatta for the 2027 America’s Cup, taking place in Napoli from September 24 through 27, Alfa Romeo unveils the new Edizione Luna Rossa – available in the Junior, Tonale, Giulia and Stelvio. It marks a further development of the partnership between two Italian icons who share the same vision: to innovate relentlessly, excel in sport and constantly push their limits. Hence, after the Preliminary Regatta Sardinia held in May and won by Luna Rossa, today in the iconic Golfo di Napoli, the second act has kicked off to lead up to the Louis Vuitton 38 th America’s Cup, the oldest competition in the world, to be held for the first time in Italy with the Luna Rossa team in the running.

The collaboration between the two symbols of Italian sportiness continues at pace, having already given rise to the spectacular Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa, the special series produced in only ten units, all of which have already been sold. It is distinguished by a series of technical interventions and a specific carbon-fiber kit that make it a masterpiece of aerodynamics. The baton now passes to the Edizione Luna Rossa, one of the most distinctive Alfa Romeo special series of recent years, which will be progressively marketed in all European markets and positioned at the apex of the offering of each model. It is first and foremost identified by the dedicated red Alfa Romeo logo and a color palette inspired by Luna Rossa boats, where white, black, gray and red are reinterpreted through specific combinations and details. The characterization continues on the exterior and in the passenger compartment, with distinctive components, specific customizations of the seats and the Luna Rossa logo featuring on all four cars. The result is a consistent line-up, built around a shared stylistic language shaped around the personality of each model: Junior and Tonale interpret the project through specific stylistic solutions, whereas Giulia and Stelvio express its most exclusive spirit.

The new Edizione Luna Rossa is therefore an important piece in the jigsaw of a prestigious partnership, in which Alfa Romeo is not only Official Sponsor but a prestigious ally in a broad and ambitious project, developed along three lines: sports partnership, technical collaboration, and the creation of special editions inspired by the world of sailing. It all revolves around synergistic work that goes beyond the boundaries of visibility or communication, translating into a real exchange of know-how, with the respective teams engaged in the joint development of high-tech solutions. A journey of technical cross-fertilization that has demonstrated one of its most concrete applications in Napoli today: Alfa Romeo has provided to Luna Rossa both the experience gained in the development of its simulator, a technological and methodological precursor within Stellantis, and the skills evolved over the years in vehicle dynamics and virtual analysis. A wealth of invaluable knowledge is contributing to the development of the control software of the circuits that set Luna Rossa’s sails in motion.

Santo Ficili, CEO of Alfa Romeo and Maserati, stated: “Alfa Romeo and Luna Rossa are two authentic expressions of Italian excellence, united by the same ambition to bring to the world the constant ability to innovate and a quest for performance that accepts no compromises. This partnership goes far beyond sport and is fueled by shared expertise, technology and vision, with the aim of continually pushing the limits. Today in Napoli, on the way to the first America’s Cup held in Italy, this bond takes on an even stronger value and the new Edizione Luna Rossa is its most concrete expression, bringing to the road the pride and passion that make Made in Italy unique in the world.”

Junior and Tonale Edizione Luna Rossa: technology and design inspired by the world of sailing
Junior and Tonale Edizione Luna Rossa share an immediately recognizable aesthetic characterization, which transfers some of the most distinctive visual codes of the partnership with Luna Rossa to the two models. On the outside, both adopt a new gray, inspired by the hues of the Personal Flotation Devices worn by the team on board, creating a sculptural effect and giving a strong character to the cars’ bodywork. The color is embellished by the iconic Luna Rossa liner that crosses the side like a line under tension, traced out by the wind. Alternatively, black and white body colors are also available. The dedicated red Alfa Romeo logo and the body kit with Gloss Black finish contribute to reinforcing its identity, which accentuates the contrast with the bodywork and impresses on the two cars an even sportier aspect. Their greatest differentiation is in the alloy wheels: 18-inch Gloss Black for Junior and the new 20-inch Gloss Black wheels for Tonale, available exclusively on Luna Rossa. The same quest is also pursued in the passenger compartments, where dark shades and red accents build a coherent, distinctive environment. On both models, the dedicated red Alfa Romeo logo stands out on the steering wheel, with dedicated materials, upholstery and details bringing the aesthetic universe of Luna Rossa on board. In particular, Junior offers specific door and seat panels that combine premium materials and are enriched with gray details, stitching and the Luna Rossa logo, as well as dedicated graphics on the dashboard and central tunnel. Conversely, the Tonale combines seats in premium fabric featuring the Luna Rossa logo with new tone-on-tone gray stitching on the dashboard and door panels, all complemented by black trim on the center console, door panels, and air vents. One of the most innovative elements of this interior is the 3D Knit technology used for the seat upholstery in both models. The 3D fabric transfers the codes of activewear into the cabin, combining a structured look with a unique three-dimensional pattern; a technology applied for the first time within Stellantis. The particular continuous thread processing means they can be made according to a more efficient process, based on a single component and a single lining, reducing the use of materials and the amount of processing waste. The link with Luna Rossa continues through specific interpretations of the nautical world: on the Junior, the upholstery on the central tunnel and dashboard fascia introduces new graphics inspired by the structure of the sails, whereas on the Tonale the same theme is reinterpreted through the new Ambient Light, where a geometric pattern creates an evocative play of light. Two different solutions that take up the same source of inspiration to adapt to the personality of their respective models, both equipped with aluminum sports pedals and kick plate with Alfa Romeo lettering, also in aluminum. The Junior also comes with a multicolored ambient light as standard. These exclusive components are accompanied by a wealth of specifications as standard, consistent with the positioning at the top of the range. Both models feature a latest-generation Alfa Connect infotainment system with a 10.25” touchscreen and integrated satnav, compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, flanked by digital instrumentation: the characteristic customizable “Cannocchiale”, 10.25” on Junior and 12.3” on Tonale. On the comfort front, the Junior and Tonale Edizione Luna Rossa adopt Keyless systems and electrically folding wing mirrors. The two cars are also equipped with automatic climate control (the Tonale is dual-zone and adds the Air Quality System), Passive Entry, heated mirrors, and Alfa DNA selector, with paddle shifters on the steering wheel on the Hybrid and Q4 Hybrid versions, heated front seats and electrically adjustable driver’s seats, with electric lumbar adjustment and massage function, heated steering wheel, and electrochrome interior rear-view mirror. Plus, both models offer numerous safety and driver assistance systems as standard, including Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, sign recognition, and driver attention monitoring. Junior rounds off its specifications with Blind Spot Monitoring, front, rear and side sensors, and a camera with dynamic guidelines. The Tonale, on the other hand, has front and rear parking sensors, a Brembo sports braking system with red brake calipers, and a camera with dynamic guidelines. Junior Edizione Luna Rossa is available with both Hybrid and Electric powertrains. The Ibrida range features a 145 hp 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo engine and a 6-speed eDCT automatic transmission, available in both front-wheel drive and Q4 configurations. The Elettrica version delivers 115 kW (156 hp) and is powered by a 54 kWh, paired with an automatic transmission.

Tonale Edizione Luna Rossa is offered across the full range of available powertrains, including the Plug-In Hybrid Q4, which combines a 270 hp 1.3-litre four-cylinder engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission and Q4 all-wheel drive. The lineup also includes the Hybrid version, featuring a 175 hp 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine and a 7-speed TCT automatic transmission, as well as the Diesel version, equipped with a 130 hp 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine and a 6-speed TCT automatic transmission.

Giulia and Stelvio Edizione Luna Rossa: the most exclusive and sporty interpretation
Giulia and Stelvio express the most exclusive spirit of the special series according to an essential chromatic and material approach, designed to bring out the authentic strength of the materials. They share a characterization that makes extensive use of carbon fiber and brings to the fore the link between Alfa Romeo’s sporting DNA and the world of high-performance sailing competition. Both are available in white (as standard), black and Etna red extra series (as options) and adopt a specific Luna Rossa logo on the carbon-fiber rear-view mirrors, dedicated red Alfa Romeo logos, and dedicated details. The most distinctive components make use of carbon fiber, including the front badge and the mirror caps with Luna Rossa logo. Specific to the Giulia model, the side skirts and spoiler recall the stylistic language of the renowned Quadrifoglio version.

In addition, the specifically designed dark wheel rims come with red brake calipers and further emphasize the performance setup of the special series: 19” on the Giulia and 21” on the Stelvio. The exclusive characterization of the two models continues in the passenger compartment, defined by a monochrome interior, interrupted by targeted accents: the iconic Luna Rossa liner that crosses the seats and the carbon inserts on the dashboard, the material contrast between leather and 100% recycled ECONYL fabric, made with nylon obtained from fishing nets recovered from the seabed.

The dashboard and door panels upholstered in leather are paired with extended carbon-fiber decorations on the dashboard, center console and doors, creating an environment in which technical materials and premium workmanship coexist with accents with a distinctly sporty character. The specific red Alfa Romeo logo on the steering wheel and the Luna Rossa graphics on the dashboard also complete a personalization studied down to the minutest detail.

As on the Junior and Tonale, the specifications as standard on the Giulia and Stelvio Edizione Luna Rossa are unrivaled, including two exclusive features: the Harman Kardon Hi-Fi system and electronically controlled suspension. Last but not least, the electric sunroof comes as standard in the Giulia and as an optional extra in the Stelvio. Finally, in terms of the engines, both Edizione Luna Rossa models are equipped with the 160- or 210-hp 2.2 turbodiesel, paired with 8-speed automatic transmission, with rear-wheel drive on the 160-hp and Q4 all-wheel drive on the 210-hp version. The 280-hp 2.0 GME petrol engine is available in the UK and in non-European regions.

From the road to the water, the same constant quest for the best performance
The Alfa Romeo simulator stood as the technological and methodological precursor within the Stellantis simulator network. The first to adopt the most advanced hardware platform on the market, it has established itself as a center of excellence and a benchmark for innovation, leading the development of new methodologies and best practices that have subsequently been extended to other Stellantis simulators. The true value of the simulator, however, lies in the skills built up over the years by Alfa Romeo technicians, acknowledged for their ability to develop high-performance cars while maintaining the focus on the driver and their experience at the wheel. This wealth of know-how now serves as a reference throughout Stellantis and contributes to the dissemination of best practices in new simulators globally. The expertise gained in the field of simulation, vehicle dynamics and virtual analysis are now also made available to the Luna Rossa technical team, which deals with all the vessel’s aerodynamics and provides its aerodynamic loads as input to the virtual analyses. The common goal is to leverage advanced digital tools and methodologies to accelerate development, better understand the behavior of the systems, and identify innovative solutions even ahead of the physical testing phase. Alfa Romeo is collaborating in the drafting and is now fine-tuning with a view to performance of the control software for the circuits that set Luna Rossa’s sails in motion. This software is initially tested in the Luna Rossa simulator to verify its operations virtually, then also released for navigation on the actual boat and tested by the crew. For the Luna Rossa team, Alfa Romeo’s experience in simulation serves as major support in optimizing the boat’s dynamics and in the quest for any possible improvements in performance. In competitions where even the minutest details can make a difference, the ability to analyze complex scenarios in a virtual environment, reduce development times, and validate innovative solutions can translate into a concrete competitive advantage.

Two teams, one route to the 2027 America’s Cup
The new Edizione Luna Rossa stands as the latest chapter in a collaboration that, since its announcement in June 2025, has progressively expanded its range of action. To punctuate this journey, several members of the Luna Rossa team took part in the 43 rd 1000 Miglia, aboard a splendid 1956 Alfa Romeo 1900 Super Sprint belonging to the priceless Heritage Hub Italy collection, usually on display at the Alfa Romeo Historical Museum in Arese. In January this year, the spectacular Giulia Quadrifoglio Luna Rossa made its debut at the Brussels Motor Show, as the first product resulting from the partnership between the two Italian teams, then a few weeks later won the attention of visitors to the first edition of the Ultimate Supercar Garage in Paris. Among other features, the most extreme Giulia Quadrifoglio ever will go on display during the Preliminary Regatta in Napoli. The journey undertaken by Luna Rossa and Alfa Romeo continued with the first preliminary regatta held in Cagliari in May, which ended with the triumph of the Luna Rossa crews: the Senior Team won the overall title by beating Emirates Team New Zealand in the final, as well as the Youth & Women team appearing in the rankings. The curtain is now rising on the second preliminary race in Napoli, which will see six teams compete for four days aboard the spectacular AC40 foils. The crews will be able to measure the progress made over the many months of development, refining their handling, tactics, and organization ahead of taking to the AC75s in the 2027 America’s Cup. In this breathtaking setting, the new Alfa Romeo Edizione Luna Rossa line-up becomes the latest symbol of a roadmap and collaboration that continues to grow, in and out of the water.
