The LEGO Group announces next phase of growth for Monterrey, Mexico manufacturing site

The LEGO Group today announced plans to further strengthen its manufacturing footprint in the Americas through a more than US $400 million investment in its Monterrey, Mexico factory. The expansion will add new packing and warehousing capabilities to the site, supporting long-term growth in the region.

This latest investment positions us for continued long-term growth and will help us meet demand for LEGO® play experiences for years to come.”

The expansion will include a new packing hall and a fully automated high bay warehouse, which will add 62,000 m2 of built-up area to the current site, increasing the site’s production capacity by 35%. The Monterrey factory currently employs 7,300 colleagues, with an additional 1,300 new jobs expected to be created over the course of this latest expansion.

This investment will create additional opportunities for technical training, professional development and long-term careers at the site. Work on the new production areas is expected to begin in early 2027 and be completed by 2029. The latest expansion comes in addition to a separate packaging and warehousing expansion that was announced in 2023 and completed earlier this year. That investment added 59,000 m2 of built-up area and an additional 900 colleagues to the site.

The Monterrey factory handles all aspects of the manufacturing and packaging of LEGO products, including moulding LEGO elements, element processing and decoration, and packing LEGO boxes.

The company is also investing more than US $1.5 billion to build a factory and regional distribution center in Virginia, U.S, adding greater flexibility and resilience to its Americas manufacturing footprint to support long-term growth in the region. Both facilities are on track to open in 2027.

Size: Size today is 148,080 m2, to be increased by 62,000 m2 for a total of 210,080 sitting on 87 hectares.

Timeline: Construction is expected to start in early 2027 and is expected to be completed by 2029.

Precision manufacturing: Each LEGO® brick is moulded to the accuracy of a hair’s width (5my/0.005mm) to ensure the perfect ‘clutch power’ that holds LEGO creations together.
