LinkedIn expands verification to help members and businesses build trust on and off LinkedIn
- More than 115 million members are now verified on LinkedIn, with 75 verifying every minute. LinkedIn has invested tens of millions of dollars in becoming one of the fastest-growing trust signals on the internet.
- Professionals can help verify each other’s experience to give people another way to build credibility through the people they’ve actually worked or studied with.
- Businesses can protect their brand reputation with more controls over who is associated with their brand, including new tools to address inaccurate employee associations.
- LinkedIn verified identities can travel to more places off LinkedIn, with Truecaller and PeerSpot joining the growing list of ‘Verified on LinkedIn’ partners.
As AI reshapes the workplace, trust has become our most valuable professional asset. LinkedIn has invested tens of millions of dollars in verification, helping to build a more trusted professional community where more than 115 million members have now verified their identity or workplace for free. Now, we’re continuing our expansion of verification across LinkedIn and integrating with new partners, giving members more ways to verify who they are and more signals to help you know who’s real and credible, both on and off LinkedIn.
How can I build verified credibility on LinkedIn?
To help you build confidence in the people you interact with, we’re testing a new way to verify the workplace and educational experience of the people you’ve actually worked or studied with. And verification matters; those who are verified are getting 50% more post engagement and close to 90% more profile views.
Here’s how it works: LinkedIn prompts verified members to verify connections that they worked or studied with. Once someone receives enough confirmations, LinkedIn adds a verification badge to their Profile, with the option to opt out.
When you help verify a shared past or current work or school experience of one of your connections, it adds peer-backed credibility and reassurance. In the coming months, members will also be able to proactively ask their connections to verify their experiences, helping members build authenticity through their professional network.
How can LinkedIn Page admins protect their brand from employee impersonation?
A company’s brand is only as trustworthy as the people associated with it. Company Page Admins, who have verified their Page, can now instantly remove known imposter accounts so they no longer appear in search results under their company name, tackling the challenge of false employee association.
We are also piloting with a selection of companies the ability to require workplace verification for anyone claiming current employment at their organization to associate with their Page.
We’re making it seamless for members to take their verified credibility to more platforms they use. With Verified on LinkedIn, members can instantly connect their verified LinkedIn Profiles to partner platforms without separate verification processes.
Today, we are expanding Verified on LinkedIn, with new partners Truecaller and PeerSpot joining existing partners like Adobe, TrustRadius, and UserTesting. For example, Truecaller users will now be able to see when someone is messaging or calling them on Truecaller if the person is verified on LinkedIn, giving them an additional layer of trust about who is contacting them.
Kunal Dua, Chief Product Officer at Truecaller, said: “A phone number by itself tells you almost nothing. Truecaller’s role has always been to add the context people need to decide whether to answer. Our partnership with LinkedIn lets people bring richer professional context to their Truecaller caller ID, building on the trust and verification signals LinkedIn has established around professional identity. That gives the person receiving a call a more trustworthy picture of who is reaching out, while helping the caller be recognised for more than just their number. LinkedIn is the natural partner for this, and I’m excited about what it could unlock for everyday professional communication.”
Whether you’re a member verifying the credibility and experience of a former colleague, a business protecting its brand reputation or a platform looking to integrate LinkedIn trust signals, you are helping build a more trusted network where professionals can connect with confidence
