Huawei Unveils New Unlicensed PtMP Microwave Solution RTN 5100 to Boost Backhaul Efficiency

Huawei launched RTN 5100, a new PtMP microwave solution over unlicensed spectrum. In his speech for an industry forum, Xu Yangbing, Vice President of Huawei Microwave Product Line, showcased how RTN 5100 doubles transmission capacity and the number of access sites over its predecessor and highlighted the solution’s enhanced encryption capabilities over the air interface to improve security. The energy-efficient RTN 5100 features high reliability and effortless installation and maintenance. It offers efficient, secure, and convenient wireless backhaul for digitalized field sites and enterprise private lines in domains such as electric power, oil and gas, and government.

Operating on the 5 GHz unlicensed spectrum, one RTN 5100 at a central site can handle up to two 1-Gbps channels and accommodate up to 128 remote sites. It supports networking modes like PtMP, PtP, and multi-hop relay, adding extra flexibility for access and backhaul of 4K ultra-HD video and broadband services across massive numbers of sites.

RTN 5100 operates in time division multiple access (TDMA) mode to enable access from multiple sites without mutual interference or conflict. It uses high-strength encryption algorithms, including AES256, over the air interface to enhance security, while utilizing redundant link backup to boost network resilience and ensure secure and reliable data transmission.
