H&M Atelier A/W26 Explores a Cinematic Mood
For Autumn/Winter 2026, H&M Atelier channels a cinematic stillness and the sartorial sensibility of the 1980s and ’90s, building a wardrobe shaped by the tension between proportion play, exaggerated tailoring, and poetic minimalism. The mood board draws on a library of pop-cultural references, from 1990s Japanese action movies to poetic and atmospheric imagery drawn from contemporary art and photography. The collection was unveiled at H&M’s runway show at London Fashion Week on 17 September, and released online the moment it hit the runway.
Autumn/Winter 2026 is about proportion and restraint, but rich with texture and warmth. We wanted a wardrobe that moves between eras — archival tailoring next to something more utilitarian — so structure and softness can sit side by side,” says Ana Hernández, H&M Atelier Design Lead.
In a collection that revisits sartorial legacy, a distinct, directional silhouette emerges from exaggerated proportions, sculpted shoulders, and elongated cuts. Late-90s-inspired single-breasted, three-button blazers can create slimmer lines that taper into a straight leg, or more relaxed shapes with looser pants that pool at the ankles — both grounded by derbies and loafers. Hero outerwear spans utility-coded pieces to cleaner silhouettes shaped by ’90s minimalism, with a bonded-leather story of coats, blazers, and pants that sharpens the offer. Archival menswear icons — blouson and flight jackets — sit alongside retro ombré striped and shadow-checked shirts and textural knits, bringing past references into the present. The season’s styling tool is a studded belt buckle that enhances every look.
Attention to materiality remains integral to the Atelier offer: the soft tactility of cashmere, wool, and dry-feel cotton jersey. Workwear-inspired qualities — crinkled nylon, nylon twill, and dry wool on heavy knits — ground the collection, while denim is reworked in seasonal washes. The sartorial pieces focus on wool blends in pinstripe and herringbone, alongside opulent viscose and nylon twill.
The palette adds new depth to a protagonist’s wardrobe: all-black, dark brown, and steel grey set the mood, lifted by burnt red and muted orange.
H&M Atelier Autumn/Winter 2026 will be available on hm.com from September 17 and in select stores from September 18, with a gift with purchase offered to the first customers.
