Teaching September 11th: The National News Desk Spotlights Scholastic Magazines+ and I Survived

To mark the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Lauren Tarshis, Senior Vice President and Editor-at-Large at Scholastic and author of the New York Times bestselling I Survived book series, and Tara Welty, Senior Vice President and Publisher Scholastic Magazines+, spoke with The National News Desk about how Scholastic is helping a new generation of kids learn about and understand this significant day in American history.

This month, Scholastic Magazines+ is marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks with special coverage across multiple magazines. Welty shared that her goal is to make 9/11 historically meaningful to children without overwhelming them. This includes spotlighting age-appropriate stories that foster unity and focus on hope and heroism, sharing firsthand accounts, and featuring relatable stories that help kids connect with what they’re reading.
