The LEGO Group takes the next exciting step in celebrating the 15th anniversary of LEGO® NINJAGO with the announcement of a new creative partnership with legendary artist FUTURA, naming him as an official creative collaborator and artistic co-creator to the brand. To celebrate the partnership, they unveiled the ‘Ninja of the Futura’ and two other custom designed, hand-embellished minifigure artworks and exclusive event giveaway merchandise at an event held at the Brooklyn Museum, offering an exciting first glimpse into the collaboration.

This first creative exploration sees FUTURA re-imagine the NINJAGO universe through his own artistic lens, giving fans a unique new perspective on the world they know and love. Through this new partnership, FUTURA will bring his distinctive artistic style to the universe of NINJAGO Legends and aims to inspire new characters and storylines.

The ‘Ninja of the Futura’ art piece unites the iconic LEGO minifigure, design inspiration from the LEGO NINJAGO universe and FUTURA’s signature style, channelling his iconic Pointman artworks and personalized graphics into a bold reinterpretation of the NINJAGO universe. The piece re-imagines a NINJAGO hero through FUTURA’s unique artistic lens, bringing together these two powerful creative worlds into a striking never-before-seen interpretation, highlighting the potential for creative exploration and inspiration for the NINJAGO Legends.

FUTURA revealed two further pieces reimagining fan favourite characters Nya and Kai. Together, the three works underscore the creative range FUTURA brings to the NINJAGO universe — and point to where this collaboration may lead next.

Speaking about the collaboration, FUTURA said: “I couldn’t have dreamed of this collaboration with NINJAGO Legends and the opportunity ahead of me. I don’t think I’ve ever been so inspired and excited to begin such a journey, with a most historic partner. EVERYTHING IS AWESOME!

Nigel Kong, Global Head of LEGO NINJAGO at the LEGO Group, said: “We are thrilled to kick-off our partnership with FUTURA. This collaboration marks a bold new venture for NINJAGO within the world of street art and culture. Our fanbase is incredibly creative, so it was only natural that we’d explore one their greatest passions. We had FUTURA on our minds for years as we saw great synergies between our brand and his creative visions – we just needed the right opportunity and now the time has come, we are ready to unlock the future together.”

LEGO NINJAGO and FUTURA fans will be able to experience the new partnership for the first time, on Friday, 18th September at the I Park Mall Yongsan, Seoul, as part of the LEGO NINJAGO: Legends DuskFall Fan Event. At the event, fans can explore the new collaborative artworks, experience giveaways of exclusive merchandise featuring signature co-created designs, see the newest LEGO NINJAGO sets up close and experience the world premiere of the first-ever anime series from the brand.

Fans of LEGO Ninjago and FUTURA should keep their eyes peeled for where the partnership will go in the future. For more information about LEGO NINJAGO: Legends DuskFall anime storyline please visit: LEGO.com/NINJAGO.

About FUTURA
FUTURA 2000 (Leonard Hilton McGurr, b. 1955, New York, NY) is an abstract painter whose practice spans five decades, setting a singularly refined spray-painted line against drifting fields of color in open compositions that suggest cosmic space. He began painting in New York City in the 1970s and by the early 1980s was exhibiting in contemporary galleries, including MoMA PS1’s landmark 1981 exhibition New York/New Wave. His work is held in collections including the New Museum (NY), MOCA (Los Angeles), and Fondation Louis Vuitton (Paris). In 2020, Rizzoli published FUTURA: The Artist’s Monograph, and from September 2024 to March 2025, the Bronx Museum of the Arts presented the largest institutional presentation of his work to date. His collaborations over his career, from The Clash to Supreme, Comme des Garçons, Kenzo, and Virgil Abloh, have carried his visual language across music, fashion, and design. The artist lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
