Stan Bain’s “Return to Vietnam” to Be Featured at the Manila International Book Fair

Stan Bain’s “Return to Vietnam: The Memories” will be showcased at the Manila International Book Fair 2026 at Reading Glass Books’ Booth 2-102 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Pasay City. A Vietnam veteran and former General Contractor, Bain shares his deeply personal journey of returning to Vietnam 45 years after the war to confront painful memories and better understand the experiences that continued to affect him.

The book recounts Bain’s journey through Vietnam as he revisits places connected to his wartime experiences and searches for an orphanage in My Tho where children were killed during a 1967 VC attack. Along the way, he meets a former VC soldier, builds friendships with Vietnamese people, travels along the Mekong River, and eventually finds the former orphanage site and Sister Renee, a nun who remembered the events of that difficult period.

Bain was encouraged to write about his Vietnam experiences after struggling with nightmares and being diagnosed with PTSD decades after completing his 13-month tour. His first book, “You Are Never Alone,” helped him gain a better handle on his memories and inspired him to consider returning to Vietnam to face what he described as his demons. He has since continued writing about his life experiences and has also ventured into fiction, drawing from his background as a contractor, licensed multi-engine pilot, skydiver, and scuba diver.
