Supporting earthquake response in Colombia

A powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck western Colombia on 10 August, causing widespread damage across the Pacific region. In response, H&M Foundation is donating USD 150,000 to Save the Children to support immediate relief efforts and early recovery for children and families affected by the disaster.

Preliminary reports indicate significant humanitarian impacts, including loss of life, injuries, damaged homes, schools and health facilities. Affected communities continue to face disruption to essential services as assessments and response efforts remain ongoing. Children and vulnerable populations are among those most affected.

H&M Foundation’s donation will help ensure that children’s needs remain prioritised during the recovery phase. The funding will support Save the Children’s response in some of the hardest-hit areas, including Valle del Cauca and Chocó. The organisation will provide child protection services, emergency education, mental health and psychosocial support, health and nutrition services, hygiene and safe water access, as well as cash assistance to help families meet their most urgent needs.

The purpose of the donation is to contribute to targeted relief while supporting early recovery and resilience among affected children, families and communities during the six-month response period.
